Welcome

At George Green’s Almshouses we provide accommodation for women of limited financial means in Poplar and Bow, in the East End of London. We have eleven flats in all – eight at Sarah Perry House in Poplar and three at Spanby Road in Bow – each of which offers spacious, self-contained accommodation suitable for ‘general needs’ residents who are able to live independently.

Established in 1842 by local shipbuilder, George Green, we operate as a charity; our board of trustees work in partnership with managing agents, Queen Victoria Seafarers Rest (QVSR), to ensure we provide our residents with a safe, comfortable and pleasant place to call home.

Interested in applying for one of our flats? Our flats only become available occasionally, and we are obliged to offer any vacancies firstly to the local authority. However, from time to time the local authority does not take up its nomination rights, in which case we are able to consider direct applications. Please bear in mind that we are a small charity, with eleven flats, and our charitable objectives mean our flats are available to women only, of limited financial means, with established connections to Tower Hamlets. If you would like to register your interest, please contact our managing agents, QVSR – preferably by sending a completed application form (which can be downloaded here).
