Our Almshouses

We have eleven self-contained one-bedroom flats, each with its own separate kitchen and bathroom; eight of the flats are at Sarah Perry House in Poplar, and three are in Spanby Road, near Devons Road, Bow.

All of the flats are newly-built (2015) or have been completely refurbished (2018) with new bathrooms and fitted kitchens. The condition of the flats is reviewed annually and we have an ongoing programme of maintenance, redecoration and refurbishment. There is also a communal garden at Sarah Perry House where residents can get together.

Our accommodation is classed as general needs and residents lead independent lives, but our managing agent (The Trust Partnership) and secretary are on hand to offer support and advice when needed.

Sarah Perry House offers spacious one-bedroom flats, with balconies and a communal garden. There is a lift and the two ground-floor flats are accessible for those with limited mobility.

At Spanby Road, we have three flats within larger blocks managed by Poplar HARCA. The blocks have an entryphone system and the flats are accessed via a communal staircase (no lift) and walkway.

Residents pay a weekly maintenance contribution (WMC) towards the cost of their accommodation and the services provided, and this is normally reviewed annually. The majority of our residents receive housing benefit that covers most if not all of the WMC. Residents are responsible for their own council tax and utilities. Our managing agent, The Trust Partnership, can help advise and support residents in applying for Housing Benefit, Universal Credit and Council Tax Benefit.
